creatief (creative)

I'm not always busy with foods ;) There are a lot of other things where I lose myself in.
I love to be creative, Especially quilting. One of my favourite blog NeedleNecessities(see link on the page) is made by Heidi. Heidi and I know each other for over 10 years and are both infected with the quilt virus.
When Heidi started a quilt group a few years ago I was her 1st member. It is by Heidi as a warm bath when you're at her house, and she always gives me lot of inspiration. But all the quilt group 'girls' are an inspiration for me.
Heidi has me now infected with a new quilt virus. A sampler of blocks from the civil war in the United States. (1861-1865) The fabrics from that time are taken in reproduction by fabric company’s .
Now it is the intention that I make a sampler quilt that is made from 56 block 5 by 5 inches. There are like 150 blocks to choose from, so any sampler is very personal. With your fabric choices you make the quilt special and reflects yourself.I promised that I have a few pictures on my blog to show my work so far.

During my vacation I sanded my dining room chairs, stained and re-covered them. I liked the job, because I wanted the keep the chairs in the family. They are made by my grandfather and they always stood by my grandfather and grandmother at home. Two are actually bedroom chairs, so those are what smaller. They where on the verge of collapse. But for me there is a lot of nostalgia, so disposing and buy new seats, was not on my mind. The refurbishment worked for me nicely and I'm satisfied with the result.

  1. Hello:
Heidi is very proud to say you were her first member of her group. It is a truly wonderful group of ladies. I love the squares you have started and can't wait to see the progess as you go along. The chairs look great. You made them look like a professional finished them. They will last another hundred years now.

  2. Hi Saskia! Back from my weekend at Cranberry Cottage and time to stop in for a visit. Your blocks look great and I can't wait to see them in person on Wednesday. I cannot enlarge those two photos so no detail from the computer. :( I LOVE the refinished chairs. I think your grandparents would love knowing you still use and care for them. That damask fabric you used it WONDERFUL for them! Can I come to dinner and sit on one??? LOL! I will answer your blog question on Wednesday by showing you how to create the link on my laptop. Is that okay? I think it will be easier to see it than me just writing it.

    Hugs ~
    Heidi

I'm going to be happy today,
Though the skies may be cloudy and gray
No matter what may come my way
I'm going to be happy today.
