'Oranje Boven' (Queensday)

Koninginnedag 2012 alweer!

Queens day 2012 is here already! a typical Dutch 'Orange' day. And traditions are getting the best of me... Although my shed is a bit of a mess, I need to clean out my sewingroom, and is there no more room in my cupboards, I have to go Queens day fleamarket shopping!! It's a Dutch tradition, and one day a year Holland is one big Flea market. I never go to the big city's, because it's to crowded for me.

With queensday, and my regular (once every other week) Friday off, I had a long weekend to get creative! For a while now, I'm looking for spools and vintage ribboncards. Around two years ago, I found some old spools, you can read about it here. But it was not enough for all my lace and ribbon. After a long search I found the solution close at home. At work there was a catalog of a art and craft company, who sells wooden buttons and wooden wheels. Next was a trip to the hardware store and a Saturday afternoon playing with a saw, hammer, nails and glue. Lucky I got some help form Joanne!

The ribbon cards was another puzzle. I found some really sweet nostalgic ribbon cards. But there was already a bit of lace around it. I emailed the company with the question if they would sell the cards without the lace and by the ten or the dozen. The answer was sadly to say NO... At a real fun and cheap store I found some nostalgic craftcards. I made a template and draw it onto the card. Cut it out, glued it together and had my own ribbon card. It's a 'sticky' job, but this way I can make my own fun, nostalgic and floral cards. The cards that already are finished I put on top of an old suitcase. It's  good, the suitcase is closed, because there's a bit of a mess inside with all the loose ribbons and lace. Good thing you can't hear them screaming they want to be wrapped around an card or spool too! LOL

Fijne Koninginnedag!!
Happy Queens Day!!

I'm going to be happy today,
Though the skies may be cloudy and gray
No matter what may come my way
I'm going to be happy today.
